actually,

some NPC will follow you around and fight with you. I am refering to the quests where you have to lead people to places. And yes, if you encounter enemy they will fight with you (if they are capable).

I wouldn't say the quests are anything better than any previous RPG games, but we all love the open-end gameplay this game allow us to do. Just if there is a MP version of this I think it will be even better.
