the programmers put that in for a very valid reason. if, for some reason, you were to attack renal and/or Aran linvail during chp. 3 after you had agreed to work with him, you would be stuck. you couldn't work for Bodhi because the time for that had passed, and the Shadow Thieves being hostile to you wouldn't help you get to Spellhold in the slightest. You could always download the baldurdash patch to stop him from continually spawning and ctrl-y him, if it's that important to you. (or you could work for Bodhi next time around)
