Oh yes, and one more thing: Your characters likely spent some time camping out on the Achen side of the portal before heading through, it's up to you if they spent that time making friends with each other or just reading books and sleeping.
The first would give them a bit more reason to stay together on the unknown side of the gate, but it's up to you.
