The Ugly Troll RP
Foreword: The atmosphere for this world/setting is supposed to be quite light-hearted, fairly non-serious and not too heavy. It’s a fairly classical adventure with a fairly simple storyline, with a couple of twists.
There are a few standard rules, however – the DM is ultimately in charge (but you knew that anyway), – the game is fairly freeform but don’t do anything that your character couldn’t achieve (again, the DM will help out with pointers), and finally, enjoy the game!
That said, let’s get on with the game…

The Tale of the Ugly Troll
An epic saga of faerietale, folklore and myth…
…at least, that’s what it could have been, were it not for the fact that really, the tale is one of magic, mystery and set in the small realm of Ael’rytor, where nothing remotely of interest ever happens, where people live their day to day lives, in peace, harmony, and really, life is quite dull, except for the odd princess kidnapping by an ogre, of course, but those are few and far between and haven’t happened for the last three centuries or so, and where was I? Ah yes, it was the time of the dreaming, and one night, an ancient and arcane spell was laid across the land, its purpose to put everyone to sleep, for in that spell, lay powerful invocations, the power to erase memory… ~ so sang Tyrella the she-elven bard
~~~
Three weeks ago, you all went to bed as usual that night (or not, as the case may be), and everything was normal. Quiet, calm and peaceful, nothing disturbed the night… however, the stars shone more brightly then ever, and as the darkness descended, so did a mighty enchantment, stilling all those in the land to sleep. When everyone woke up the next morning, everything was normal… save for the fact no one could remember anything prior to the day before. Who they were they knew, but the rest of their lives, they did not. Life continued on as normal, as though it was perfectly natural. It seemed that everyone had been affected this way and no one could remember a thing…
…however, to some, it did not feel quite right. Most people were content to continue their everyday lives, but to a select few, a few special chosen – there was a yearning desire to discover who and what they were, and what enchantment had befell the land. So typically, the adventure starts in a tavern. It always starts in a tavern. Why does it start in a tavern? Well, my friends, that is a question best left to the sages.
The setting is a serene, warm, sunny day, as are most days in the realm of Ael’rytor. It is morning, barely past ten, and outside, normal village life continues as well, normal. The cows are in their fields being tended (or as not, as the case may be), and the villagers are carrying out their daily tasks. A typical medieval village, Raenol, by name, is fairly small, with a sparse population, farms, fields and forest at the outskirts. A rural community, the only stone buildings are of course, the church and the town hall. (Which is really a village hall with a bell on the top). The next most important building in the village, is of course, the tavern. “The Belching Green Dragon Inn”, by name. As with most villages, the local law enforcement resides in the town hall, the herbalist owns a shop, and a general store tends to most needs. The hammering of a blacksmith rings out, as does the sound of normal village noise. Overall, Raenol, is quite quaint.
Inside the tavern, it is dark, cool, with a musky smell, wooden floorboards sparsely coated with straw, not a lick of paint, and a stonebrick fireplace. The bar, is of course, the central focus of the inn, with stairs leading off to the right, and scattered around are mismatched chairs and tables of varying sizes. A three-story inn, the beds are of varying quality, as of course, are the prices. The inn is owned and run by one sir Edgar J Cuffbert, who is more commonly known as “Bert the Barkeep”. A well-tone and actually rather plump bartender, he was naturally, of course, an adventurer in his time, and has many a tale to tell. Around forty odd years or so, he’s naturally stronger then most of the monsters out there and could whoop the heroes with no trouble whatsoever, but I digress, a jolly man with chestnut hair, he wields a tankard and a heavy crossbow with blunted bolts, reserving the latter for trouble – which almost never happens, seeing as this is Raenol, a nice, calm and peaceful town...
The adventurers soon-to-be-heroes are currently sitting at the bar with a mug of ale at their hand, or not, as is their preference.
OOC: I’ll let you introduce yourselves and talk.
Edit: Just a small reminder: please don't use any ghastly or bright font colours - as for my own style, I post text in silver, thoughts in italics, and Aeriah's speech/text in green. Other characters get other colours for speech. Kyr's speech is in this for example. Varying colours may include gold
Also, please try not to use too dark a colour either, as black is quite hard to read, especially against brown. Avoiding conflicting colours is also good. Oh finally, please don't use colours other characters use for speech - it makes life easier.
