Occasionally, a filthy beggar would moan “Spare some change, please”, only to be shoved away by swaggering dandies, to the laughter of their girlish companions. It seemed to Ji Xiang that the bazaar was beckoning to them to make their last purchases before the day was ended, and another one begun.
