The Hunger
It seizes and with a horrifying relentlessness pulls and snatches away what it grasps, and that which has been taken falls screaming into an emptiness whose silence is the terrible soundlessness of non-existence. Souls that had longed for release and escape from their imprisonment in the sword discover to their horror that release even after so long and painful a time is not always something to be desired. Willing or not, however, they are released into a consuming destructiveness from which there is neither escaping nor returning. Attacked in this manner by the Hunger the Modding Mage himself broke free only at the cost of doing great violence to himself. And so here the woman whose throat is caged in silver sacrifices that which had protected her from the banewolves. The clasp is destroyed and there is a movement of within her as of a gathering of dusky clouds swollen with rain. The shield which had settled externally over her now, for a time before it dissipates, has settled within her and such a shield is one through which even the Hunger might not reach.
Still, its grip on the sword is strong, strong enough that a few scattered seeds suddenly stretch new roots into the soil and beneath the earth siphon life from away from that which destroys. And for a moment at least things hang in a balance of equal pulls.
ooc: This moment will not last long. A strong and decisive movement should allow TAO to resheath her sword and break the hold of the Hunger for the time being. Spiritsword has been drained of at least half of the lives trapped within it – which, if I remember the sword’s history and nature correctly, might actually be a good thing. It is possible that a soul or two will simply be released into the Forums as a result of all of this.
