As you desire. My goal does not have to be realized in your story...but if you want to use it, then you are free to. My character has enough money to have hired the entire team of ruffians to travel with him in search of this dragon and your character is the one that knows where one is. Any way you want to do it is fine by me. I am just looking forward to getting on a boat.
