Arcades: Apparently, Tao forgot to mention the dangers of doing anything with shadow in this game. Any mention of, any casting of spells that pertain to it, or any items that help one hide in shadows or anything else not mentioned here all are owned by the founding evil of this game. The history of this game is very old, I think about two years...and at the time, there was a powerful mage that had went mad due to his excessive use of shadow magic. Now that he is dead, the powers he owned have been released into the world to cause strangeness to occur. Thus, the shadow giants, shadow hounds, shadow dwarves...etc. The last person to use anything dealing with shades and shadows nearly died at the hand of one he had summoned.
Therefore, whenever shadow is mentioned in a spell or such...the game masters can then alter reality to make the worst thing possible happen. In this case...I believe you are right about you being in the area of the ley lines when the banewolves attacked you, but what I believe Cyril just forgot to mention in his post was that by casting the spell that invoked shadow "inside" the protection of the ley lines allowed the penetration of evil to enter, for the shadow was on the inner side of the protection. Therefore, there is a need to abandon the lines and run away very fast...because the lines no longer can keep the wolves at bay. You have tainted them with the shadow.
Don't fret. There have been worse things to happen. Before the Mad Mage learned how to cast shadow magic...he used an old form or alteration from the fibre of the boards themselves...called "editing magic". He could edit anything in your post and make it what he wanted it to be. It was alot of fun for a while, but he advanced in power to where he no longer had to rely on editing magic to save him from his enemies. Shadow Magic was more powerful.
