With the medium-sized landswap experiment never really starting despite some interest, I've decided to try again, this time with armies which at least
start out prefabricated (because I think that's what took up so much time and caused the loss of interest

).
How to play
The game will be played mostly through PMs, with this thread being used by me to give more details on playing, by you for applying and also as central location where rumours can be spread by the generals, and in-game official information by me.
I'd put list of the forces here as well, but since I cannot update these anymore due to the new 30 minute editing limit that's not going to work. I'll whip up a site for those soon.
Information on fighting will use rules much like the ones in the (admittedly confused) posts for the landswap experiment, I'll add what's needed when needed.
Your character's role and abilities
You are the general of a kingdom's forces on the plane of No'ote. You answer to noone but your king or queen. Depending on the ruler's character, you'll be told to parade through the streets, defend the nation, raid the borders, expand the empire, crush a foe or similar. To do this, you have an army which you can order about.
You can go with the king's orders, following them to the letter, or use your own personal interpretation. You could even decide to use your position to usurp the throne, or sell your services to another employer, leaving the realm defenseless. It's a roleplaying game, so you can basically do as you like. Although there may well be consequences, of course...
Because you are the general, and the king or queen is not, you can also advise your monarch on such things as the type of troops to be levied/trained, what land you should take when expanding and the alliances the king should try to forge/what mercenaries to hire to fight a particular foe.
You'll also be able to arrange what troops move where in the realm, what units are deployed where in battle, and what orders those units have. During battle you'll have some limited ability to issue new orders as well.
Your ultimate ability is instant transportation. This allows you to travel between forces and any castles you captured or which are already held by your ruler. You can't go anywhere else, but this means that you'll know the position of all your troops at any moment, can always advise the ruler and can avoid capture (and death) until you've lost your very last unit or castle.
Races
For now, everyone's human. Your troops will be human too. This is to keep things from getting too complicated. You may come across other races later on, and make them a part of your force. The race of the general doesn't matter, as he can't deal any damage nor get killed in a fight. The king made you general, so he won't be affected much by your special charms or lack of them either.
The rumours
If you plan to invade another realm, it helps when you wait for the defenders to go far, far away from your intended target. You can post here to add rumours.
For example, if the will-be defender feels threatend, he or she may post that his nation plans to attack a different neighbour, tricking the agressor into attacking when defenses are firmly in place.
The agressor may post that he's got a small force threatening the far side of a realm, hoping to lure away defenders. He or she may even be telling the truth, and when the threat is discarded as a false rumour, catching the enemy off-guard would provide some serious advantages. Ensuing panic may even mean the main assault goes well too, as defenders run back and forth between the forces.
In addition to this I'll be posting main events as well. These are (almost) always true, as they represent popular belief (this will be influenced somewhat by your own rumours, BTW). Because such word of major battles and royal decrees takes time to spread, they will not be entirely up-to-date when I post them.
Signing up
I'll need a name for your character and a type of army at the very least, you can add names for the kingdom and the king and/or queen too, if you like. Regiments have plain names when we begin, you may change these later.
Types of army basically means you have a pick between 'archer'-heavy, infantry-heavy, cavalry-heavy, light cavalry-heavy or a general, more rounded force.
And finally
I'll post the link to the site with the army types when I have finished building it, although any stats won't say much until after you've fought a few battles with the troops. Recruitment is now open
