Alliene sat in the void on folded legs, her hands folded in her lap, swords on either side of her to provide meager light. The wind was pushing softly against her back, but she ignored it, for now. Tireless hours of walking in pitch blackness was not something she was used to, and it was beginning to wear on her mind,
"How much more of this pointless wandering must I endure?" she muttered to no one in particular, and the wind pushed on her harder, whipping her hair from her back to stream like a flag in front of her. Sighing, she picked up her swords and stood, sheathing them reluctantly, and being thrown into darkness again. She followed the winds gentle tugs and prods, and after another uneventful hour of trudging, the breeze stopped. Frowning, Alliene cast fruitlessly about with her eyes, and stuck out a hand uncertainly, drawing it back swiftly with a curse as her knuckles banged into hard rock. There was a hum, and the rock she had smacked lit up. Well, more like some unidentifiable light shined down on it without a noticable source, but at least she could see. The rock turned out to be slick black obsidian. A large round base with ancient drow scriptings supported a life sized statue of the Demi-goddess Herself. Alliene hesitantly reached out and touched one of Her extended hands, and was suprised when it felt warm and smooth...alive. Frowning, she glanced at the dark face of the statue. Her features were soft and vibrant, but they looked no more alive then the floor Alliene stood on did. Sighing, Alliene bent down to read the inscriptions on the base. Most of it was extravegant stories of how Shar came to be and the warriors she brought to the surface. One particular area mentioned a water breathing drow...Alliene stared. That part about water breathing drow was written in sea-elf!
"Hello, Alliene," a mystic voice eminated from the statue, causing Alliene to jump. The statue had animated itself...no...Shar had taken the statue. The ankle-length hair was shining white and the eyes a deep violet instead of black. Alliene immediatley folded herself in front of the Demi-goddess,
"I have come, as you directed, my Goddess,"
Shar's deep melodious voice chuckled, "Rise, my Warrior,"
Alliene stood quickly and looked askance at Shar.
"My Child, long have I thought on what I am about to say. You know that the Gods are immortal, but We do not enjoy tarrying about this world, helping the mortals in their paths, and battling amongst Ourselves. Most of Us leave for another world or live out Our lives as mortals. When that happens, We bring up Our Chosen, to take Our places," Shar's deep violet eyes stared ominously at Alliene.
"You...you cannot possibly mean me..." Alliene breathed in disbelief.
"I do, Alliene. But do not worry. When you die, and your mortal life is over, you will join Me and spend near to century to learn the task of the Demi-goddess, and when I leave, you will assume my form and carry out my work,"
The first thought that popped into Alliene's mind was how she would deal with having ankle-long hair before the realization set in upon her,
"I..do not know what to say, Goddess...how can I ever repay you?"
"Simple," Shar smiled a small smile, "Your work after me is the perfect repayment," She extended Her hand.
Blinking, Alliene reached out and took it. In an instant it felt as if her skin was on fire, then it receded. She looked at her hand...it was black. Drow black. So were her arms and face. She quickly raised a hand to behind an ear. Her gills were still there, thankfuly, "What did you do?" she demanded.
"Begun the process of making you Mine child," Shar leaned forward and palced a kiss on Alliene's forhead, then waved her hand. Alliene felt a wrenching and was thrown into darkness again.
