The water of the creek was cold, an icy balm on the fiery pain he still felt. The pain it caused was welcome, and as the large man slipped below the surface again he felt the air, warm in comparison, caress him, he walked along the creekbed until he found a point where the bottom dropped away, then he swam to the shore and began to climb a tree near the hole in the water, some sport, he thought, will help ease my mind, besides I haven't had a chance to do this since I was a lad. And then he jumped, and was swallowed up by the cold clear stream below him, making a great splash as he dipped below it's surface. He swam to shore sputtering and gasping. "I should have plugged my nose first" he said to noone in particular.
