As a solo sorcerer, the Robe of Venca is a must. It lets you get your spells off first, which is always a huge advantage. One of the tricks I used was spell immunity. Generally the AI uses the same spells at each encouter. Watch which spells are giving you trouble in a fight. If you get killed, use a spell immunity the second time and choose the school of the spell that was the most difficult for you in the encouter. Spell immunity is a very powerful lower level spell when applied properly.
