The crest that has pierced the ground is dark smokey gray color. As it draws near to the two adventurers more and more of the crest becomes visible and the ground itself begins to heave and swell along the neat furrow traced by the moving crest. This heaving is brought to a sudden and abrupt end as a massive form erupts upward out the ground, a massive creature with an enormous mouth. The creature itself is protected by a thick armored shell of the same dusky gray color as its crest. As it bursts out of the ground scattering dirt and stones in all directions the great mouth opens and with a booming roar spits out a thick cloud of shadowy darkness that covers the area around the adventurers.

ooc: Larry - I have no problem with trusting folks to be reasonable with their combat posts and in determining the effectiveness of their actions.

Clearly, this is a slightly modified bulette – one that has been changed by all of the shadow creatures it has consumed. Brendan and Syrathic are not blinded but are caught in a region of darkness and the creature’s own coloration blends well within it [assume a minus on ‘to hit’ rolls]. The creature has 75 hit points; AC -2. The initiative is yours, guys.
