"Well? What news have you?" ~ She anxiously studies Ewan's lazy smile as he enters the room.
"That depends on how well my news will be rewarded." ~ That hateful, knowing smirk! How she abhores it, how she despises this life and herself! But there is nothing she can do... or nothing she will not do, for this beast of a husband that torments her so.
"Please..." ~ Her lips quiver as she motions for him to continue.
"My dear, you make this exceedingly complicated, when you know quite well how simple it is." ~ His caressing tone sends shivers down her spine even as he advances towards her, rubbing his hands slowly ~ "Your husband is a nincompoop who abuses you, treats you as nothing." ~ The brusque tone leaves no redeeming pride for her and she feels her cheeks burning from the harsh truth ~ "Why do you submit to your fate thus? Why do you allow him to bully you in such an abominable manner?"
Without realising it, she has allowed him to grip her painfully by the shoulders, so that they are now gazing into each other's eyes.
"Tell me, how is the situation?" ~ Sobs emit from her parted lips, and tears fill her once sparkling eyes ~ "I beg you, spare me from this hell that I live."
"Why should I spare you, when your husband leaves no spoils for me each time I aid him?" ~ She cannot deny his truth; she can only continue to stare dully into space ~ "By the gods, I'll get what I can out of you, if that's the last thing I'll ever do!"
"NOOOO!!!!"
In her frenzy, she flails her arms out, first pushing ineffectually against him and then grasping for the hilt of his dagger. Quick as lightning, she clasps her slippery fingers round it and unsheaths it from the scabbard, blindly striking out repeatedly.
To her horror, the sound of metal striking metal echoes in her ears and her terrified eyes glance at his face, perceiving the murderous rage that has crossed his red face.
And so... this is the end... ~ She closes her eyes even as her breath becomes faint, then the world darkens to nothingness...
