Signs of a burden seemed to be forming within her as he spoke the words ~ He wants me to catch my own fish... does he want to continue pushing me thus? ~ She darted a glance at his slightly flushed face, then looked at her own feet ~ Can he accept a weaker person? ~ Yet it was crazy, thinking of these thoughts. He had not once spoken of his attachment, since his return. Here he was, determined to carve a useful being out of herself. She should be glad. She should be grateful.
But was she?
There was no denying the growing resentment she felt, to have all the cares of the world thrust upon her yet-unaccustomed shoulders. What had started off innocuously as an adventure had returned to the same old topic she hated. Independence. Almost every moment she was reminded of how much he wanted her to be a better person, a stronger one. She would no longer be comforted in the knowledge that he would willingly take care of her, while she focused on serving a greater world.
Gripped by an unreasonable torrent of frustration, she moved towards the lake, brushing against him without bothering to apologise.
May I find the courage and perseverence to carry on...
