The marks you notice are very confusing to you- at the bottom there it says ^OC ... up in a straight line from it are seemingly random numbers, with a red line in the center which stops at about the level of a figure 5.
As you examine the magazines, you become very intriqued by the images... then you remember that you`re a paladin, not a priest, and quickly put them back.
As you pick up the splint, you notice that it has been slightly charred at one end.
