Yes, in BG1 the inns were just that - inns. In BG2 they are more plot devices. Helpful I suppose, and realistic in places, but mostly it just takes some of the RP fun away from it.
But out of the BG2 ones I also have to go with the Crooked Crane. Simply because it is right next to the town gates, and who wants to stumble further than that when they arrive?
