I read an online interview from one of the game developers that the reason the belt is there, in the beginning of the game, was to keep her alive for the sake of the storyline (probably that scene out of the prison tunnel). Afterwards, the belt is no longer there when you reunite with Imoen. I guess then she's not a factor in the game anymore.

Yes, we all know that. But for role playing-reasons, people here tries to find another explaination.
Irenicus shouldn't think "Hmm, I give her this belt so her sibbling have a reason to hunt me down IF I would be attacked by shadowthieves and captured by the cowled ones after the battle" [img]smile.gif[/img]
