Sensing the eyes of other pedestrians on her, she begins to feel rather foolish for gaping at a building like that ~ That happened donkey years ago. ~ she reminds herself, experiencing yet another knot in her heart ~ I wonder what happened to him...
He will never know the many sleepless nights she endured after his sudden departure on that fateful day. She had almost wept herself blind, so great was her love for him. Still is, for him. Sure, others had told her to "move on". But how could she, when there was no closure? If he had perhaps explained a little as to why he had to leave, she would have felt better. As it is, she is still wondering to this day whether it was something she had done, that had offended him so grossly as to leave without a word.
Back to reality. ~ Cold, harsh reality. And her future is now bleak again. ~ I need to find another job. ~ Her eyes close momentarily in resignation ~ I must never refer to that restaurant again. No other company in Atlanta would want to hire me after this fiasco. ~ The words of Sam are still echoing in her mind.
With a sigh, she turns and begins trudging towards her little apartment a few streets away from the building that had stirred up a thousand emotions and memories.
