Maybe as well as rules of the game people could be required to post if anyone can join in, clan members only, predetermined people only, etc. And clans could include how to join their clan. I edited the ORT thread to include these things which was just a few lines, but I think this will make it easier for everyone, and make sure people aren't afraid to join a game they think they might not be welcome in.
I edited my sci-fi adventuring thread to include an: "Anyone is welcome, you don't have to be part of any clan and you can join at any time." at the beginning of the first post as well.
