another thing is, keep everything light hearted. a game is likely to run for a long time. everyone is **expected** to lose interest, and pick up interest along the way. so hang in there and dont leave

you should try to ask the DM to provide descriptions of your surroundings as often as possible, or have him tell you about certain objects, as you may find clues along the way
