Well in fact it is because the leprechaun isn't what you need to fulfill your quest. You need to get through the Sphynx Pyramid to an enclosed area where you can talk to Kerah and also find the Leprechaun's treasure. Inside that chest will be the proof you need for the quest. So forget about Lucky and get on with the game! (you can kill him if you like and get an interesting weapon but he's not hurting anyone, just being annoying)
