After doing some quests, I had enough to buy a shield that later helped me do the twisted rune quest. Then I found the compound. After that and some leveling up, I could do the red dragon. Shadow came next and then sewers( hard imo). Then Kangaxx came after I had all his parts. Then I did the prison( need to think here on how to approach the while area to make it easy). Then Nalia's( way easier this time around). Now I'm in the planar sphere. I've done side quests and received much of the rewards.

I have to say that if one doesn't have a certain amount of proper items, some easy things can be difficult. It's all about compensating your weaknesses and having something to one up the npc's strongpoints.

Kangaxx was easier since I had the beloved staff of magi. That's saying you get one character who can cast a lvl 9 spell on himself way earlier than possible( Gaxx has bad bad AI too). This was key in my way I fought em. It's really a matter of how you stumble upon the things. There is no one true way to go about it. There are things that makes the next quest simpler and easier to do though. And I think "most" ppl stumble upon Gaxx early; that's the only thing that made em seem hard. Now there is a safe way to beat em every time.

I can't say the same for dragons like Firkraag yet. My whipping his hide is too random. Sometimes I win and sometimes I don't. This seems to be because I was of a lower level. It's either you are of low level hitting the dragons or low level hitting the sewers and Gaxx - wich makes either seem hard.

I still say dragons will give the tougher battles. You can haste/melee rush most of the stuff out there provided they don't disintegrate/imprison you like liches/Gaxx do. Dragons take a bit more time because of the wing buffet.

For Gaxx, I can only see two ways to beat em non-cheesy style. I wouldn't even know what cheesing him would be like. Can't set traps or cloudkill him I don't think. Organic creatures can be cheesed. Dragons can but this isn't a thread about cheesing your hated npc, so apart from that, definitely a worthy fight every time.

Bah, I need to get out of chapter two some day.
