There are a lot of bugs with imprisonement and stoning spells even with raising dead.

I think most of the chars should react to a freedom/stone to flesh/resurrection spell like your romance partner after vampirism/amanautor quest
E.g. you can beat Kangaxx if you keep out of sight and send a tank (Keldorn, Minsc, Korgan) at him. When he imprisons them just cast freedom and the (now blue) NPCs will hack him to death without defense from his side.
