Oh, I know what you mean. [img]smile.gif[/img] If you tell the guard waiting at the northern exit that the guilty party is the tanner, he'll go to arrest the tanner, himself, and die. There's nothing you can do about that, and you do lose the experience for the quest. The body is worthless to you.
On the other hand, if you follow the tanner down to the point where he escapes, then return to the guard and tell him all that has happened, you'll be rewarded with the experience.
