I'm quickly becoming bored with my fighter that I imported from BG and I'm thinking about starting a spell caster. (how great are the spells in BG2)

Here's my question, is there any way to keep that certain "item" that's imported along with your character when you start SoA.

I know that the pantaloons become significant later on. Is there not a way that I could import them or something? If not I guess I'll stick to my straight fighter.
