You not only have to know which pipes they go in, you have to know the proper sequence to apply them in. Either on the pipes themselves or in your equipment screen when you right click on the item, it should give you clues such as 'this item seals the deal,' or 'this item is neither first nor third.' From there you should be able to figure out which item to put in place first, second, third, and last.
