I'ma also add to try it out on blinded and held npcs. Their INability to turn around or see will negate the issue that you seem to ALWAYS need to be invisible and behind the target.
I've done a few successful backstabs from the side. I notice but it could have been my scripts running and my party casted a debilitating spell on the hostile already....
Anyways. Woohoo, a mage/thief with a staff to backstab with now....hrm. Must be nice.
