1.) No plot found. Probably just comic relief.

2.)You don't have to kill Reynald (the paladin who speaks to you before Anrg's appearance). If you return with the cup and decline joining the group Anarg will attack but Reynald will withdraw (obviously disappointed by Anarg's bloodthirst).
If you try to join you have to kill them all.
