I've just completed the game (including ToB) with a swashbuckler/mage (the swashbuckler dualled at 15th level) without the XP cap removed.
It was hard but not impossible but all I can say is mislead is the most overpowered spell in the game-there's a post on why somewhere in this forum.
Suffice to say it included a lot of monster summoning, time stopping and praying for the best. (And I fluked killing the big end baddy in ToB)
