Now that's even odder. I mean, I like Salvatore so far but that seems like a bad clerical error he made.
Mainly due to langauges and accents. I think Salvatore should have had the boy say Drit-st. Simply because when a person says a name in their accent, that's how it has to sound, when someone else says it.
Take the name Sakura from Card Captor Sakura. In the American Dub, her name sounds like Sack-eww-rah. Sure, it's hard for some people to totally roll the r when saying a Japanese name, however the proper way to say Sakura's name would be the Japanese way, Sack-ur-ra, or rolling the R.
So if Drizzt's name in his accent sounds like Drizzit, then by default that should be the way his name is pronounced, because it's the way he does it.
That's why I feel it's a clerical error on Salvatore's part, however this doesn't change my view on the books or Drizzt's name. I just wonder if Salvatore has noticed this or not.
