I've done it at level 11, though it was touch and go when the vampires showed up. Others will tell you "Oh, I did it at level 9, piece of cake," but ask them if they had a walkthrough and/or plenty of hints handy, first.

You're safest when you have a cleric who can cast False Dawn, and a good melee type doesn't worry much about the effects of fire.
