i have the solution to your problem.
i do believe that icewind dale portraits are formatted a little differently from BG ones (different dimensions or something.)
here is a site where you can download a zip file of ALL the IWD portraits specifically formatted for BGI + II...

i was ecstatic upon finding this, because i think the icewind portraits are far far cooler than any of the BG ones. they're just darker and more badass. ya dig?
