Yep it's true. Females are very limited romantically in BG2, although there is a way to have female/female romances if you're into that sort of thing. Start the game off in multiplayer as a male PC, then change your PC to a female. The game will treat you as if you were still your original PC and you can pursue the female romances with your female PC..
