My impression of Helm was that he is the God of Law and Order. So he's more "Lawful" than anything else...letter of the Law and such. Paladins would by nature support Helm because of that.
As far as a warrior's god goes, I prefer Tempos (or Tempus), the one in IWD...but that's another game altogether.
Wish they had put him in BG2.
