I'd have to go with 2: If you can't resist the weapons.

Of course, part of this is because I'm not a 'get toe-to-toe with the monsters and fight to the death!' sort. I prefer to be able to shoot 'em full of arrows, bolts, or slingshot before having to switch to melee- and I *hate* how wielding dual-weapons makes use of any ranged weapon impossible.

You'd think someone could still use a slingshot at the very least...argh!
