i think a bard is a good choice, but if you're going to play one you might as well play a blade. cooler than a bard when it comes to overall combat ability and what not, and the lore penalty is not a big deal at all. on top of that, a blade is far cooler than a bard when you reach throne of bhaal and both can use the high-level rogue abilities.
also, think in terms of stronghold quests you haven't done yet...that adds new sub-quests to the game that you've never played before.
