My personal favourite is the Elven Archer. At first he/she is a fairly good fighter although he/she is of course better off standing next to the spellcasters in the rear. As you gain experiencethe Archer is easily capable of clearing whole area's of monsters double-handedly, while the other five partymembers stay out of trouble.
Although not as powerful in H-T-H as other fighters, Archers are great when it comes to dispatching entire armies one soldier at a time. The major disadvantage is that there are no arrows better than +2, so you can't hit certain mages all the time. (Just wait 'till the spell duration runs out
