Whether an undead creature runs or is blown to bits is based on the power of the priest. There should be some TU charts somewhere either in the BGII manual or on the net.
As a cleric rises in power he has more of an effect on undead, and those creatures that usually just ran away are now blowing up from the shear force of the priest's words. Pretty cool, eh?
