Hi, you don't HAVE to go and fight these demons, but if you don't you may well miss out on the most powerful weapon in the game, an ingredient of which is held by these creatures. As for strategy, I put my party in one corner where one of the things appears and summoned aerial servants and things into areas where the others appear. (I think there are five in total.) I then used my party to attack the creatures individually and hoped that the summoned creatures could at least stall them for a bit, while my main party attempted to pick the demons off one by one, or at least that's the idea.
