1.If you play with the EXP cap off, play with him until you've milked every last drop of his special abilities from him, then dualclass him to a mage. IF you're playing with the cap on, then lvl 12 might be a little late as you might find it hard to regain his kensai skills.
2.He can use anything fighters can, with the exception of armor of any kind, helmets(Ioun stones work though) or shields. He CAN use throwing axes, and if you dualclass him you get to use mage items to make up for his inabilities.
3.Stat requirements are the same for fighter/mages. High con, str and int.
