Edwin mentioned there was a transformation scroll from mage to lich in his nether scroll quest. I think it would be great to get you hands on it in ToB. Imagine the possibilities. The restrictions would mean that you could only wear rings but spell slots would be maxed out and high level spells accessed at lower levels. There should also be a few more restrictions to balance it out but the idea is there.
