after wondering why Mae'var was supposed to be such a tough opponent (the typical "boss" monster at the end of a level), i browsed his stats and discovered... he's a human multi thief/mage! doh, but he wears shadow armor that disables his spells. i checked his script and he's got all the info for spell casting.
i wonder if the devs meant to change something there. that fight would be MUCH tougher if he actually got to use more than 20% of his abilities.
anyway, i'm off to tweak the armor and see how it goes with him this time.
