Ah, but be sneaky. After the Underdark when you go back to the Copper Cornet, have one person with boots of speed run at Yoshi once you enter, and TALK to him before he dies.
Have him join your party, he will still die, but he will be dead in your party, then just go rezz him, Yoshi is back!
