Soloing isn't that hard. You just have to remember that a lot of the more difficult battles are unnecessary, because you don't need the xp's (but it's always nice to try though ), and there's nothing wrong with just avoiding others that are too tricky, because that is what you would actually do in 'real life'. You can buy lots of good stuff because you only have one character to spend money on. And you level up very quickly because you are not sharing experience points. You do miss out on a lot of the game though, and you can only carry a limited number of items, which is annoying sometimes.

I finished BG2 with a solo monk not so long ago, and the hardest part was getting out of the first dungeon... all those mephits
