A little bit of both guess... of course I use the better items I get but I don't use items like ring of regeneration, cloak of mirroring and boots of speed they make the game to easy (anylonger)
... I usually play a paladin... and I equip him with the avenger a great armor a cloack of protection and I'm satisfied
