Did you kill the lich inside the Crooked Crane in the City Gates area? If so did you take the rod of terror and equip your mage with it? It has a 20% chance of draining 1 point of charisma every time its used, so that could explain the loss.

Oh, I'm sorry to say there's no way to restore this charisma as the drain is permanent. If you want to force his/hers charisma up then you can equip the ring of human influence or use Shadow Keeper to restore the stats.
