Actually, page 235 of the manual (USA version at least) implies that half-elves can also be druid/mages and fighter/mage/druids. Unfortunately, you can't believe everything you read.
The manual has several inaccuracies in it, and these two multi-/dual class combinations were never included in the game.
BTW, Druids CAN dual class to and from fighter.
