Doesn't matter who you decide to side with, if you choose to work for them, then they will ALL eventually die as part of the quest....heeheeheeee
But the not so "evil path" would be get the artifact and give it to the mayor of Trademeet, you'll get a little gold and +1 to rep for your trouble.....speaking of risk and reward, there is no real consequence for picking the more evil path except more loot and...well...more loots.
P.S. and NO, you don't get to rule Trademeet....nice thought though.....
