Imoen is a nice girl, but a rubbish Thief. My advice to anyone starting a new game is to have your lead char a Thief or multi-Thief, and dump Yoshi as soon as you get out of the first dungeon. OK, you lose some gameplay related to him, but it is worth it to have a good Thief all through the game.
